hemlock grove

Today we see the release of latest lycanthropy infused series  Hemlock Grove on Netflix. The story revolves around a small Pennsylvania town where a girl is brutally murdered and the villagers come out with torches  and pitchforks search
ing for the killer. Oh, and there’s also werewolves, Nazis (at least they look like Nazis), heavy sex, drugs, necrophilia (apparently), vomiting and a whole lot of weird stuff judging by the red band trailer released a few days ago, that I’ve kindly embedded below. It’s safe to say it sparked my interest. It also looks a lot like True Blood and I was bored by that one after four episodes so who knows… Anyway, I’ll give Hemlock Grove a chance. Eli Roth‘s movies haven’t exactly blown me away but the man does deliver on what he promises and he does have a certain vibe that I like also let’s not forget that he’s one of the most influential horror directors of our time, like it or not. He said that he plans to fuck up a generation with Hemlock Grove, that’s an obvious marketing ploy to spike interest but he did achieve something to that effect with Hostel.

Keeping with Netflix standard of releasing the whole series at the same time we’ll be able to watch the entire 13 episodes right now. Which will certainly cause many people to lose a good night sleep tonight while they watch with bloodshot eyes at the depravity that is sure to fill the screen. I’m still not sure if I’ll be able to watch it right now or not, Netflix outside the USA is still a difficult thing to get, but I’ll sure try.

By the way that poster is amazing!!

This clip shows the werewolf transformation and it’s one of the coolest I’ve seen, I especially like the final touch. I’ve got to say I’m not the biggest expert on werewolf movies but I do enjoy them and it’s cool to see them taking some of the spotlight away from the other mainstream horror creatures (pointing a finger at you vampires and zombies!). I haven’t read the novel that it’s based on but I’m confident that, with Eli Roth producing, the show will treat werewolves with the respect and dread they deserve. I hate when werewolves are depicted as a fantasy interpretation of horny, hormone infused teenagers. The 13 episode Hemlock Grove is going to premiere on Netflix on April 19th.
